9 terms, explained plainly. Where a term has a legal meaning we say which law; where it has a company-specific meaning we say to check the plan.

- Affiliate
A person paid a commission on sales made through their link, with no downline overrides.
C
- Customer volume
Volume from sales to non-participant customers, tracked separately in some plans.
H
- Host rewards
Free or discounted product given to the person who hosts a selling party.
I
- Influencer
A person who sells or promotes products to an audience they built on social media.
P
- Personal use
Product bought by participants for themselves, counted as sales in most plans.
- Preferred customer
A customer who buys at a discount, usually on a subscription, without joining as a participant.
R
- Retail customer
A buyer who is not a participant in the compensation plan.
- Retail share
The proportion of a company's sales made to non-participant customers.
S
- Social selling
Selling through personal social media accounts rather than in-person events.
