Median earnings

The amount earned by the participant in the middle when everyone is ranked by earnings.

The median is the midpoint: half of participants earned more, half earned less. Unlike an average, it is not pulled upward by a small group of high earners, which makes it the single most useful figure in an income disclosure.

Most statements publish averages by rank instead of an overall median. When the tier table is complete, a median can be estimated from it; our database notes when a figure is computed rather than published.
