Active status

"Active" is defined by each company, commonly as a minimum personal volume per month or per four-week period. Participants below the threshold earn nothing that period, whatever their organisation does.

The definition matters twice. First, it sets a recurring cost of participation. Second, income disclosure statements often report averages only for active participants, which removes everyone who did not meet the minimum from the denominator. The FTC staff report on 70 statements in 2024 noted that "active" was defined inconsistently and often unclearly.
