Sunk cost
Money already spent that cannot be recovered and should not influence the decision to continue.
The starter kit, the convention ticket and last month's autoship are sunk costs. Training that urges participants to "protect their investment" by continuing is asking them to reason from sunk costs. The buyback policy is the one way to recover some of it.
