Independent contractor
The legal status of most participants: self-employed, not employees of the company.
Also: independent business owner, IBO, independent distributor
Participants sign an agreement making them independent contractors. They receive no salary, benefits or minimum wage, pay their own expenses and taxes, and can be terminated under the policies. The freedom is real; so is the absence of protection.
