Regulation & law
Earnings claims
Any statement, explicit or implied, about how much a participant can make.
Also: income claims, earnings representations
An earnings claim is any representation about income, from a specific figure to "replace your salary" to a photo of a car with the company logo. Under US law, a claim must be truthful and substantiated, and atypical results must be qualified with what is typical.
Many companies require participants to show the income disclosure statement whenever compensation is discussed. Our guide on reading those statements explains what to check.
