Herbalife FTC settlement (2016)
A $200 million settlement requiring Herbalife to restructure its US compensation around retail sales.
In July 2016 the FTC announced a settlement with Herbalife under which the company paid $200 million and agreed to restructure its US business so that rewards depend on tracked retail sales, with limits on personal-purchase volume, according to the FTC's announcement. The order did not find the company to be a pyramid scheme; the FTC said the company would have to "start operating legitimately". It remains the most detailed public template for a retail-based plan.
